Fences dropped in Thornybush; opening up to Greater Kruger Park

As of March 2017, Thornybush Private Nature Reserve has begun removing its eastern boundary fence with the Timbavati, a process that should be complete by early May 2018, and will mean that Thornybush will become fully open to the Greater Kruger Park.
As Thornybush already provides both guests and residents alike with wonderful game viewing, the dropping of the fences will now allow increased movement for the animals and a richer game viewing experience.
When boundary fences are dropped, it dramatically increases traverse for wildlife, new bloodlines within Lion prides are created, Leopards increase their territory and wander further afield and in general, the scope for more prey, grazing, and the availability of water resources increases.
There is a world of wonder and fascination when boundary fences are dropped, it was noted when the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve dropped their boundary fences with Timbavati and the Kruger National Park, exploring the confines of a Private Game Reserve with some of the best game viewing in Kruger: all within one reserve.
Thornybush Private Game Reserve, is a private game reserve near Hoedspruit, Limpopo. It neighbours Kapama Private Game reserve, the Timbavati and Greater Kruger National Park. The reserve’s surface area is approximately 11 000ha, with an abundance of birdlife and wildlife species including ‘the Big 5’. Today, the Thornybush collection consists of 13 commercial lodges and is home to South Africa’s second oldest commercial lodge.
The reserve is constantly undergoing various research projects centred on the various wildlife species residing in the area. Nature conservation is a priority to the reserve as efforts are being made to keep the wilderness as unharmed as possible.
Up until, and including recently, an assortment of projects has been successful. The reserve was the recipient of the first ever translocation of lion and an entire elephant herd from the Kruger National Park
