The reserve is 3300ha of bushveld situated within the 15000ha Blue Canyon Conservancy. It is situated 12 km outside Hoedspruit and 40 minuets drive from Orpen Gate, Kruger national Park. The reserve has two perennial streams and several dams. There is an abundance of large trees along the river beds and mountain views of Mariepskop and the Drakensberg. There is a very low number of houses build here and you can experience a peaceful and private game experience on Moditlo.

The Reserve is in South Africa's prime wildlife areas on the Mbezi and Moditlo perennial rivers. The vegetation is made up of two main Eco-zones, the Northern thornveld eco-zone and Southern bushwillow woodlands eco-zone. The underlying rock types determine the nature of the soil that breaks down from them.

Typical trees in the Northen thornveld are knob thorn trees, Transvaal saffron, large leaved rock figs. Red bush willow, round leaved-teak, marula, jacket-plum, russet bush willow, tree wisteria, umbrella thorn, weeping wattle and zebrawood. The Southern bush willow contain bush willow, leadwood trees, silver cluster-leaf, buffalo thorn, sickle-bush, weeping wattle, apple leaf and round leaf teak. In the riverine regions one can see huge sycamore figs, jackal-berry and weeping boer-beans trees.

The majestic Drakensberg Mountains forms a stunning back-drop to the west of Moditlo. Moditlo Game Reserve forms part of Kruger to Canyon Biosphere, proclaimed by UNESCO in 2001.

The reserve is secure with electric fencing and guards with limited access to residents. Water is supplied by borehole and electricity from Eskom has been laid below the ground for improved ascetics. The wildlife estate contains the Big Four, ie. leopard, Lion, Elephant, Rhino, as well as giraffe, waterbuck, impala, wildebeest, zebra, duiker, steenbok, tsessebe, warthog, bushpig, wilddog, hyena, and jackel, There is an abundance of smaller animal and birds such as squirrels, bushbaby, sunbird ,ground hornbill and fly catchers that nest near the lodges. Blue bank Conservancy

In 2007 five founding members created the Blue Bank Conservancy by dropping fences.

In 2008 re-introduce some of the species that used to occur here naturally started to occur. In October eleven were released into the reserve. In November lions were released and they have settled in quickly. Wild Dogs that was seen from 2007 on a sporadic basis in 2008 had seven pups and have had pups again in 2009. They have seemed to make the reserve their home despite short trips to other reserves in the area.
